At CEATEC JAPAN, Mitsubishi Electric unveiled a portion of its plan for HAVi-compliant TV receiver units that will start shipping around June 2001. Mitsubishi Electric plans to implement HAVi technology in a wide range of large-sized home theater TVs, including 65-inch digital light processing (DLP) rear projection monitor as well as TVs using large-sized cathode-ray tubes. In June 2000, the company announced its alliance with VividLogic over adoption of the HAVi software developer's new "FireBus" technology. Home theaters are a pain for electric service contractors to set up, because an infrared control system (integrated infrared remote controller) needs to be installed on the back of the main display for central control of audio-visual equipment. In addition, with infrared control capable of sending signals in only one direction, there was no way of checking whether the audio-visual equipment was functioning correctly. Implementation of HAVi will make it possible to connect the audio-visual equipment with IEEE1394, facilitating installment of an integrated control system and ensuring correct functions. ![]() |
